Brief biography: 
Dr. Youngs' is a broadly trained geographer. Her research expertise includes cultural, historical, and environmental geography, cultural landscapes, national parks and protected areas, digital history, historical GIS, tourism, and field methods with a regional focus on the western United States. Dr. Youngs' scholarship is interdisciplinary, mixed method, and field work oriented. She is keenly interested in understanding and interpreting how places change over time especially in terms of spatial dynamics and socially inscribed meanings. Her research and teaching are mutually reinforcing, thereby connecting the classroom with active research projects and local, national, and international field sites.
