Brief biography: 
Alistair Smith, Ph.D., began at the University of Idaho as a post-doctoral research fellow in the Department of Forest Resources in 2003. An associate professor, Smith is the director of College of Natural Resources’ (CNR) Research and Graduate Studies. He is also the program lead of the Fire Ecology and Management Program in CNR. Smith has a doctorate in geography and a Master of Science in imaging and digital image processing from the University of London, as well as a bachelor’s degree in physics from the University of Edinburgh. His research interests include environmental biophysics, fire combustion dynamics, air quality and smoke management, and remote sensing of ecosystem processes.
